Door ajar light.

I have a 97 T Bird that seems to have an issue with the door ajar light. My driver door seems to be working fine. My passenger door on the other hand, When i open the door and close it. The light on the dash stays on. The door is shut correctly and tight. It is not ajar. I cant get the light to turn off. I leave the car sit for a few hours and get back in the driver side and start the car up the light is out.. but as soon as that passenger door opens the light stays on again.

I'm thinking it is a switch issue. Where is the switch located? I see a button on the inner door jam between the hinges.. When i push that button the interior lights turn off but the door ajar light remains on. Is there a switch where the pin locks in?

Any ideas?

Thanks ahead of time.

The door ajar switch is inside the door hinge. Some people have had luck spraying the crap out of the hinge with WD-40 to loosen up the switch but I had to remove and clean it (if you do use WD-40 be sure to re-grease the hinge). If you decide to remove the switch to clean it you'll need to pull the door panel to at it

There's more threads with more info on getting the switch out in other threads that I used to help me when I did it, you should be able to find them with a few searches.

it is in the door hinge itself? to or bottom one? Can i see it when i open the door?

I assume that it is sticking closed or open because that door barely ever gets opened.. lol.

Any pics or diagram of this? I might be working on this this weekend.

It's slightly above the hinge. You won't be able to see it, heck I couldn't see it even with the door panel off while I was trying to get it out. Regrettably I didn't take any pics when I did the work. Unplug the (IIRC) yellow wire from the switch then remove the (again, IIRC) philips screw out to get the switch out.

It's a simple pressure switch. There is a metal rod with a spring behind it that is pushed into the switch the contacts when the hinge is opened. When the hinge is fully latched, the metal rod emerges from the switch, opening the circuit.

I was able to get the old one out, cleaned, and back in within 30 minutes when I did the repair last summer.
