AC question

My AC does something a little strange. When I'm traveling down the road at speed, say 50-60, the AC blows 48-52* air. When I stop at a light the vent temperature immediately drops to about 42-43*. I know it's doing this because I have a digital thermometer stuck in one of the vents.

Any ideas?

My first thought is the radiator fan. As far as I'm aware (at least in the stock program on the MN12 platform), it runs up until you're traveling faster than 40 MPH, then after that it will remain off. The exception being if the coolant temperature and engine load passes a defined level.

If your running the A/C the fan should stay on as long as the compressor is kicked in.

My dinosaur has a mechanical fan only. They didn't start adding an suplemental electrical fan (and then, finally, deleting the mechanical fan altogether) until a year or two later.

Maybe the fan clutch?
