95 bird build starts but runs really rough

Hey was wondering if someone could shed some light on why my motor won't idle and runs rough. Just got everything together and it starts rough and doesn't seem to be getting enough gas. Won't stay at idle for long either. I have bbk fuel lines, fuel regulator, and 60# injectors. I still have stock fuel pump and was wondering if that's why. Please offer any other suggestions. I thought it should at least idle with stock fuel pump. Thanks!

Do you have a tune? What is the fuel pressure set at?

No tune yet not sure what fuel pressure is set at no guage. Found leak by fuel pressure regulator. Got firestone towing it but they say they may not touch anything aftermarket. Do you think it hashould to be tuned first with all the after market stuff I got? My mechanic said it should drive

Absolutely you need a tune. I'm surprised it runs at all. Stock injectors are 19#/hr. Without a tune, that is how much flow the computer is expecting, so it is injecting over 3 times as much fuel as it should! That is of course assuming that the fuel pressure is set at stock, but you don't know where that is set either. Don't bother having it towed to Firestone, that will just be a waste of money, if they even touch it at all. For starters, before you even try to start the car again, get a base tune from someone to account for all the changes you have made, and once that is done, get a fuel pressure gauge and set your fuel pressure to 44psi with the vacuum hose disconnected, then reinstall the vacuum hose. At that point, the car should at least run, but trying it now is only risking damaging something in the engine.

Add finding a new mechanic to that list, there's no competent mechanic in my book who says a car with injectors massively oversized compared to stockers - without a tune - should drive.

Get a 255 lph fuel pump too. The stocker is something like 120 lph, which equates to about the flow of 24#/hr. injectors (or 30#/hr at 80% duty cycle). For 60#ers, assuming you ever get to the point where they'd be maxed out (at 80% duty cycle), that's 235 lph...

Thanks guys got the tune set up for Jan 21. Got some 09 mustang shelby rims, 20x9 in the front 20x10 in the rear gonna need some adapters but I can deal with that. Meanwhile having it towed to exhaust shop for some dual exhaust. Do I have to get the only headers offered for thunderbird or will shorty mustang headers fit? Anyways thanks for everything again.

Well guys I am pretty sure that I am going to fall quite a bit short of the 600 hp that I thought I could get out of this thing. I have talked with the tuner now and he has told me that I should be lucky to get to 400. Sorry about the misinformation it was just what the guys selling me parts and building my motor were saying.

I have yet to see anyone break 500hp without a blower.
