Blower Motor Stuck On High Speed

Well, I was driving along, minding my business when out of a clear blue sky, flash, bam, ala kazam, this happened:

In a previous thread I discussed by AC woes, and the problem which has newly popped up.

Because the AC doesn't work, I had my climate control set to PANEL, so I could blow some cool air into the car. Without warning, the fan went to the highest setting, and is now stuck there. The dash controls are dead.

I know I need to replace some electronics on this 1997. A knowledgeable mechanic told me I need to replace the blower motor resistor unit behind the dash.

Anybody been there, done that? In order to drive the car I have the blower motor unplugged.

Is this the failed part?
