Air bag code 21- Fixed!

This thing started flashing today Code 21 Safing sensor not mounted to vehicle properly.

Has anyone dealt with this before? It's supposed to be located behind the drivers side kick panel and I have no idea what it looks like!

Hoping it's just a matter of cleaning dirty contacts but I don't need anything going off either.

It's a box a lot like the one under the hood; looks like a sealed metal relay.

BTW, If you stomp your foot while the front one is triggered, they go off.

I'd disco the batt before pulling the panel, and don't get your head in front of the wheel, lol.

I treat airbags like I do explosives or guns; they're just waiting for a chance to take you out if you screw up.

Went out there this morning to try it and see what I have and the Code 21 is gone. Now I have a Code 35, Passenger side air bag low resistance or short in circuit! No sign of the code 21 after starting the car numerous times. I'm starting to lean towards a bad module, I see them new on eBay.

I need to get this taken care, car is due for inspection and no way is going to pass.

That box is right where water leaked around the big grommet up front, you may have something like that going on; I'd pull it apart and check.

IIRC, the airbag box is blue, and it's behind the pass airbag toward the door.

That's exactly what I'm thinking Greg. IIRC last year when I was cleaning up things under the fender liners, that large grommet wasn't secured. That and the fact that I know the cowl has a bit of a leak, water damage may be the culprit. Won't know until I get in there!

If that's what it is; clean the board off with hot water first, then rinse with acetone, Blow it off with an air gun, dry it completely with a blow dryer, and Spray it heavily on both sides with clearcoat.

It won't matter if it runs, just don't get it in any relays. (I don't think there is one)

Let it dry for a couple of days, and then put it in and see if it works.

The cleaning should get any oils or salts washed off, and then drying it out and coating it with laquer will seal off future leakage.

That's the way I fix almost any old, broken electronics; the rest need a soldering iron.

I bought a half dozen Geiger counters for $5 each, and sold them for $100 each, lol.

And If it doesn't work you can still get one on ebay.

Back from vacation and decided to pull the module out. Everything was dry inside when I opened it up and this is what I found.

Time for a replacement I think.
