Went to take out my daily driver yesterday (95 LX 4.6 w/245K miles), battery warning light came on. Gauge showed charging but figured I better check it out so as to not strand myself. Voltage on the alternator post was fine (fourteen something) while running. Only problem was the wire out of the top had come off and plastic insulator in pieces probably from thermal stress. Might have been okay to just reconnect but I put a piece of 1/4" rubber hose for insulation. Wondering if that is more likely to insulate the connector or trap water around it. Picture shows what was left of the electrical insulator.
