You can also have it custom bent at a local shop. My guy charged me $200, but I already had my Magnaflows, so total would have been around $400.

Is it worth it to get the ART exhaust or is it better to get it bent by an exhaust shop? Would there be any difference in performance?

Welcome to the club. There are quite a few members in Florida that post here. We've got a group of about 8 really nice cars over here on the east coast and we get together every so often to race at Moroso, to help out with each other's mods, or just get together to shoot the breeze about cars. There are a couple more in the Orlando area, one in Melbourne and a guy over near Bradenton. We are having a "Mini-meet" at Moroso in Palm Beach Gardens, on January 30. We should have a pretty good turnout. It's posted here http://forums.tccoa.com/showthread.p...threadid=30130

Anyway,

I am not familiar with your warranty provisions. Before making any modifications at all I would read the warranty VERY carefully. I'm thinking that any warranty that covers an eight year old car, regardless of mileage, might be a little picky and pretty specific. The longest I was offered on a factory extended warranty was 6 years. If you are really concerned about not voiding it, call the carrier and ask if you can modify your exhaust.

I waited until I had over 100k on my '96 before installing the custom true duals. The exhaust guy I use warned that if they can find an "out" on a warranty, they will use it. What he did do right away is put a pair of Dynomax mufflers on the existing system, there was no performance improvement (not much anyway) but it did sound a bit louder. The mufflers did not affect my extended warranty, and they shouldn't affect yours, but check. Any thing else you do may.

You said you wanted OEM, and you want loud. You can't have both. Aftermarket performance mufflers (Dymomax, Borla, Magnaflow, etc) are not technically OEM, but will probably not affect the warranty. The reference above to Speedfreak is for a custom aftermarket prefab dual exhaust system (they are right in Miami), which is also not OEM. Will it void your warranty???? You'll have to ask the carrier, and make sure if the say it won't you get it in writing from someone, or they direct you to the clause in the warranty that says it's ok. Down the road saying "Mr. Smith said it was ok" will not help you.

If you get past the warranty issue and decide that you can modify your whole exhaust, or say "screw it I'm gonna do it anyway," where you are located, you should be able to find a custom shop that is capable of doing a good job at a reasonable price (not Meinike, or Sears, or Midas). There should be someone in St. Pete, Clearwater, certainly in Tampa.. If you don't find someone, I can set you up with my guy over here in Stuart. It's about a 4 hour drive over, and my guy can do it same day in about 5 hours or less. Here's a pic of what he did for me. It cost $625 from the front cats all the way back to the stainless tips, including 2.5" pipe, labor, hangers and mufflers:

Good luck... cruise the site, do a few searches, check the tech articles, and ask questions, that's what we are here for...

Do you have any friends in the states you could "visit" for a quick exhaust install?? Of course driving back if you didn't declare it, and somehow the customs guys picked it off, there are the penalties and fines.. Imagine getting busted for smuggling in a dual exhaust system??? bummer...

Now is the time to buy from the US, the exchange is better now than it was a while ago. It would have been better to buy this in July, August but it is still good now just not quite as good as then! I don't have the speedfreak exhaust but talk to them and if they will ship it as a gift and they don't use UPS, you may get it without the duty and taxes! They could also under value the exhaust system and say it is worth $200.00 and that will cut down on the duty taxes and such. Just a thought, but what do I know!
