Catback Flowmaster system

Hey.

just have a few quick questions/statements

ok well i want the flowmaster cat back system and i heard it is really only for sound and not performance

i really just want the sound right now but a little performance couldnt hurt so and ive heard the dynomax and i dont like the way it sounds at all! maybe its just me
has anyone had any bad experiences with the flowmaster catback kit? if yes like what? and do you guys think it will give me even the slightest hp gain?

thanks a lot,
Patrick

how much exactly your exhaust sytem cost you?
i would like a true dual set up but maybe with a dual chamber 50 series just behind the tranny (and also gut the third cat) and put long maruder style tips at the back.
where in the area of michigan your friend's shop are located?
thanks.

well i got the flowmaster cat-back for my 90 SC , and its quite a big change from the tiny pea shooter exhaust it comes with. It isnt loud like everyone says, in fact its very deep and quiet. Im going to upgrade to headers, downpipes, and high flo cats next, then get the center section made to 3"

Well, I didn't get the actual flowmaster kit, but i went to a local muffler shop and they put 2.5" pipe from the third cat back, deleted my resonator and then split the pipe in the rear and put two 40 series 2 chamber flowmasters back there where the stock mufflers go. I can't stand it, it sounds good outside the car at an idle or low rpm, but once the rpms climb, it gets quieter . Inside the cab the resonance is so loud that my gf complains that it hurts her ears and it drones out my music until I get above 2000 rpm. It's really annoying, not exauctly what I had planned on. Before my current setup i had just cutoff my mufflers and it sounded just as good if not better outside the car, and was quieter inside. I'm actually going back down to the muffler shop to see what we can do, I might ask them about the magnaflow magnapipe(I don't know how it would sound), but will most likely just have them take off the flowmasters and put on some 18"x2.5" chrome tips and see how it looks/sounds. All this hassle just because it's illegal to get rid of any cats (I was going to do seabass' setup and replace the third cat with one 40 series flowmaster, delete the resonator and then just run pipe for the rest out the back). Just my .02, hope it helps

I have the flowmaster system in my 96 V8, and to be honest I really dont think its worth the money. It sounds nice while idling and when you are reving high, however at cruising speed it drones horribly, and doesnt sound good at all.

To bo honest, to get the sound, just cut off your mufflers and put in fatter tips, the fatter tips will resonate the sond some, so it will really sound nice and not droney. I've heard this setup and to me it sounded better than my flowmaster.

I installed the Dynomax catback and wasn't too impressed with the sound (barely louder than stock). I had just completed the headswap, so I knew I needed more flow out of the exhaust, so I kept the Dynomax mufflers (want the car to remain looking and sounding close to stock) and had the local Midas fab up a replica of the expensive ART true dual system with an X-pipe and 2.5" pipe all the way back from the cats. The sound grew louder but very mellow at idle - I love it!

Embalmer- how much did your system cost from midas? I am currently trying to "refresh" my exhaust or replace the entire system and I am looking for places to get the work done. All the exhaust shops around here are too cocky want an arm and a leg for their work.

I paid $350 for the work, but I had them install 4 new O2 sensors, fix a header leak and fab up the pipe. I reused my Dynomax mufflers, too.
