Oil gauge replacement question

I need to replace my oil gauge in the gauge cluster. I am just wondering if you can replace just that gauge or not.

Would it matter if it comes from a 3.8 or a 4.6 should it? Can I use a oil gauge from say something like a 91 SC in my 95 4.6? They look the same size, I just dont know if they connect and work with the different electronics or whatever I gotta do.

I am pretty sure its just the gauge because the shop said they hooked up a mechanical gauge of theirs to test and that worked fine but the one in my dash doesnt work at all.

Also does anyone know if you could buy just that gauge from ford or do you have to buy the whole cluster?

Thanks

Are you sure it's not the sender? They are prone to fail, cheap and easy to replace.

The sender has the single red hooded wire connected to it.

They said they hooked another gauge up to it from in the dash and it worked. But Ill check into the sender too since they are prone to fail.
Thanks

Also, as far as I know, all the in dash gauges are the same...

Yes, the oil gauges are the same. I have a cluster from an SC, and have taken apart a cluster from a 1995 Cougar (3.8L). All had the same oil gauge as the 1994 4.6L I drive.
