strange thing that i have discovered....

Not too long ago i had work done on my car, and the fuel pump, filter, and computer were replaced. Gas mileage was still bad, then my rear driver sdie tire was reallly low, so i put air in it an it helped out a lot. Well anyway, after that point, when i put chevron gas in my car (i usually put $15 in my car when i put gas in it which is bout 1.69 a gallon for chevron). I go about 125 miles or so, before the low fuel light comes on. I put in aboutt 8.8 gallons or so. Now when i put shell gas in it bout 5 or 10 cents cheaper, $15 gives me 9.0 gallons, an put about the same amount of gas in it, (no changes in driving habits) i go about 145 miles before the light comes on, i always use 87, so i didnt put 89 shell or 87 chevron, both 87. Could it be my car just gets better gas mileage on shell, as i just had to put gas in it today.

shell gas quotes that their gas gets better milage than any other gas that you can buy....havent u seen the commercial where they put shell in a car and two other gasses in other cars and the one with shell goes further than the other two...they say that it helps get better milage and i have noticed that with my car to.... i usually put shell in my car anyways but then i change over and it gets a little bit worse gas milage... so it could be that shell actually gets better?

The mileage would be determined by the BTU content of the gas. Up here we have mandatory 10% ethanol (ethanol has less BTU's than gasoline) so it does affect our mileage for the worse, but not by much. It's funny you mentioned Chevron gas, because I thought that I got better mileage with Chevron gas than I do with Super America gas. Maybe I'll try the Shell stuff next time.

I primarily put Shell in the Cougar, mainly out of habit though...

super america gas sucks, it smells horrible and it makes my engine run crappy. my car gets horrible gas milage anyway, everyone tells me its how i drive. i disagree with them, theres only one thing my car and my girlfriend have in common, and thats that they both want me to spend more money on them, and the only way my car accomplishes that is by guzzling gas.

We don't have a Shell around here, so I use Phillips 66, and it seems to be OK.
