Are you sure that it is not the belt slipping? I have the same problem and at first I thought that it was the tranny but I eventually found out that it is the belt slipping. This problem seems to be pretty common. If it really bothers you, you could always just replace the belt.
He could be meaning the serpentine belt up front. The one driving your alt, pwr steering, etc. If your trans is shifting hard from 1-2, the sudden change in rpms could cause the belt to slip and screech. Been there before on another one of my rides.
Something to check out.
Yeah the older the belt the more the squeak.. my new gatorback has yet to start squeaking between shifts.
If you think of it in terms of Newton's Law of Motion the belt is spinning around the pullies, and when you shift instantly and the rpm drops so suddenly the belt takes another split second to slow back down fully.
