It seems like my car doesn't want to rev over 3k rpm. I have a 3.8 N/A V6 in a 90 Cougar with 3.27 gears. Does this mean it was babied and never had the legs stretched? I am afraid to try to push it blow something like a head gasket. Is it my transmission? I am afraid to floor it.

Don't be afraid to floor it. It should easily get over 3000. I'm at 3500+ rpm regularily climbing the mountains in "D". Try it in different gears. Does this happen in all gears?
