5.4 head question...

Hey can anyone tell me by this picture if these are PI heads?

Am I right that the intake ports on a PI head are kinda tear drop shaped. I was looking at a set here in town at a local junk yard tring to figure out if they are PI or not also. Thanks for the help.

later,
jay

DOHC refers to two cams in each head. Those are SOHC.

PI heads have heart shaped combustion chambers, and have "PI" written on the head itself.

Kinda hard to see....but they look like NPI to me.

Look in the center of the fead where the intake bolts to.It will sy PI in the center but you have to have the intake off to actually see it.It is along the lip where the valve cover bolts to.
Hope this helps you,
Chris

Thanks Scott that picture is worth a thousand words. LX-Tasy thanks also I will look for that when I go check out these heads at the junk yard again. I have a 50 dollar bid on those npi 5.4 heads in the picture. If I get them for that bid I will use them as trade or part trade for the ones at the junk yard. If the heads at the junk yard are what they same they are: 99 f-150 5.4 heads. No, they are not attached to the truck or block. lol

A 99 5.4 with PI heads at the salvage yard. Then I saw another 99 without them. You just have to look for that PI if you can see it.Look at the core motors most salvage yards have, you can usually get them for 350 complete.
Good luck,
Chris

Yeah I am not really sure if these "99" are pi's I will have to check middle of this week when I get back over there. These heads are 300 for the pair complete if anyone knows of any complete PI heads for less let me know.
