Removing The Third

I want to remove the third cat from my 97 Bird's exhaust....Can anyone who has done it please tell what is the easiest way to do it? What parts you used? About how much $$ it ran you? And does it sound better without it in?

if you're keeping your stock exhaust and not getting aftermarket yet, i'd just gut the third cat. i used a hacksaw, but a sawzal would be MUCH easier i'm sure. cut the cat off. everything's easier the closer you cut it to the cat. get a long, narrow, yet strong tool (i used a broomstick ), and keep punching til it all comes out. make sure it's all out and rinse it out afterwards. i've heard of a metal rod and a hammer being used. then just clamp it back up there. happy guttin.

Just remember... gutting the 3rd cat will kill ALOT of backpressure.

the primary cats give enough backpressure.
