I am used to OBD2 s .What is needed to read codes before OBD2 ? Check engine light came on today, But car still runs great. Thank you in advance for any feed back.

You need a code reader. There is no trick to have it flash the codes through the CEL. Either get a cheap one at a parts store, borrow one, or go to Autozone or some place that reads codes for free.

Darn it I am confussed here . Just found this on the web

1996 and newer vehicles are OBD II compliant and require OBD II compatible products such as the PocketScan Code Reader CP9125, OBD II AutoScanner CP9135, the SUPER AutoScanner CP9145 or CP9150 Kit.

So is my 96 Bird OBD1 Or 2 ? I looked under the dash did not see a OBD2 slot, I am new at these birds forgive me for


Just found my own answer OBD2

Yes it's OBDII and the connector is under the dash on the passenger side.

I *think* just the v8s are OBD2. I know my v8 95 is.

The 94 and later 4.6L MN12s have OBDII ports.
