NPI oil dipstick tube on PI Head Swap, fit or no fit?

I'm trying to solve the mystery of why the stock NPI oil dipstick tube doesn't seem to fit after swapping on Romeo D22D PI Heads. I fed the dipstick tube through the center exhaust manifold hole (between the 2nd and 3rd exhaust port), and fed it through the engine mount hole close to the block while I was putting the head down on the block. Under the car, I can put my fingers on the end of the dipstick, but when I try to position it to the hole in the block, the tube hits the engine mount and prevents it from lining up. It's like a chinese puzzle.

Next step is lifting up the head again, and see if my brother can line it up from under the car, and put the head back down. Or possibly see if I can route it outside the engine mount, where it looks like it would be above the steering rack.

Just thought I'd ask for help because my arms are tired. (Yes, I've done searches and read about the lokar flexible tube, but really want to keep everything stock for the sleeper look, plus no cost to me aka broke and can't afford that fancy crap).

Are you feeding it with the bracket firmly attached to the head flange? IME it should loose, having a helper guide from the bottom(and better yet another helper help you hold the head). Your routing is correct.


Yes this is a pain, I'm personally never doing a headswap with the engine in the car again because of that tube.

I'm feeding it loose. The dipstick tube has the bracket that would attach to the nut on the valve cover. I don't have the newer dipstick tube that attaches to the boss on the head, but am considering it if it's an easy fit. I pulled the PI heads off an '04 Marquis, so I didn't take the dipstick tube because I believe it's different.
