I bought a new 3.73 trac-loc unit for a 99 cobra. I'm going to be doing this install in the next few weeks. Any tips, tricks, or suggestions for this install? Estimated install time? I'm not doing this by-myself, I am going to have another set of hands helping me. I have good mechanically ability so what do you think?
it shouldnt be that hard, get a new set of poly bushings from mn12performance.com.

I thought the stangs had 31 spline side gears while we had 28. Or are you planning on swapping the side gears?
'00 cobra R=31spline, 01' cobra=31spline,no 02' cobra's made, 03'cobra=31spline.
THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS IS THE 99' COBRA. Read the FRPP cataloge, it list it for the 99' cobra. Doesnt work on newer cobras.so make sure it's for a 99 car and your all set.For the record the 99 came with 3.27 gears. If the seller claims it had 3.73's stock ask him to pull the cover.then count the teath on both ring and pinion, then devide them to make sure. Some people dont care who the con, so be one step ahead. Good luck. And dont forget a chip to adjust the shift points, and a new drive shaft is a good idea.

Thanks for all the responses! It a 28 spline, and it's for a 99. And it does have 3.73's, it's a new ford motor sport assembly, sorry I didn't make that very clear. I ordered it from 5 star ford. Looking forward to getting these in!
Just did this swap three weeks ago. Pretty simple. Thing's I messed up.. I broke the plastic vent tube piece. Oh well. I took the rear caliper off the one side to pull the axle. Good hint, rent the damn tool for the caliper piston.... I tried to use the needle nose pliers that my manual suggested... no luck. I also decided to use a synthetic oil... the FRPP 3.73 unit had alot more fluid then I realized... took a bit to drain out. Other then that, pretty simple swap. Any other questions, I'll do my best to help. I have some pics of the swap in progress if you need.
Well, depending on how your exhaust is, and how many ppl you have helping, you may wanna see if somone has a differential jack (attatchment for a regular floor jack). Summit has one for $50, but if you know someone, or can rent (or just buy), it would probably make it A LOT easier. All in all pretty easy. There was a post by Silver95bird not too long along that should help.
