Have any of you guys in CA passed SMOG sniffer test w/ just the pre-cats? I know it wouldn't pass the visual test, but most don't even look.

You shouldn't have a problem as long as the car is running good. do a search on the net for tips on passing.

Be VERY careful where you take it if you remove the 3rd cat. I passed in '01 but was busted in '03. I have an OEM 3 cat pipe just for Smog checks now....
FYI- I did pass the tailpipe, but the visual didn't pass. Of course it didn't help that the guy was being a complete (moron). After he saw my brakes up front, he shook his head, and proceeded to crossreference almost every part on my engine. Really. Find a nice 'out of the way' place. A few $$$ might help too....
(The 2 cat vs. 3 cat tailpipe levels were almost identical)

Hrm, yeah, I know it wont pass the visual... I know of a few places down the street that don't really do visual inspections. That's good info., though (that the 2cat vs. 3cat readings were about the same).
