egr valve

I'm still trying to get this header job finished!!! Well they are on but the line for the egr valve was off alittle so I have to wait till tomorrow to go to a muffler shop to have them cut it and weld another piece on. Last night I started it up, open headers, and it stayed on for about 5 minutes I started it today and it turns on but won't stay on and now the check engine light is on. Is this caused by the EGR not being connected to the header?? Will I be able to drive it like this? Also the o2 sensors aren't hooked up either. I'm taking it to get the exhaust done at the same time they do the egr. Please let me know if anyone knows about this. I don't think it's anything else because I really didn't mess with anything other than the k member.

be careful running a car with open headers. When decelerating off load, the engine sucks air up the exhaust. This cool air can cause the valves to burn up. My advice (just my $.02) is call around and find a cheap tow-truck or rent a tow dolly.

Thanks for responding that helps . I found a shop that does real good work. He is going to do the install for 160.00. I've decided to leave everything off run pipe with x pipe and mufflers. He was going to do it for 350.00 with magnaflow race series but I need it done Friday and they can only find one, the other won't come in till next week, so I'm getting it done and putting my old 40 flows back on till I can get both magnaflows. This shop is about 15 miles from my house so ya I agree it's risky. But with your response I think your right I will probably tow with my truck. After all the trouble it was to install the headers Idon't want anything else to go wrong!!
