Do the Kook headers come with a T-Bird application or is it just a stock application style header. I mea do they make T-Bird specific ones or just a stock one for all that happens to fit.

I may disapprove of what you say, but I will defeend, to the death, your right to say it.

Looks good from up here (NY)

If you want to really be cool you should remove the passenger side valve cover and cut Mr, fill tube down to a reasonable size. They made it like that for the trucks and Ford aint gonna spend the money for another set just for the other cars are they?

Mine is all the way down because the "03 Cobra intake tube is a Fatty. I like to use the black RTV that you get at the Ford dealer to seal it up after the cut and paste.

Any word yet on new exhaust pipes being fabbed from ART or whoever to fit the Kooks?

I FINALLY got myself a new GT motor. Found an 02 with 300 miles for a whopping 1300 bucks and it's loaded with EVERYTHING included the AC and Hydroboost pump which I'll be selling.

The motor goes in later this year once I line up a TC and headers Sweet pictures

I don't see Stage 8 Locking bolts on those headers...Unless you wanna be dropping the K-member later to re-tighten the bolts..you might wanna pony up the $40 or so for a set of good bolts.

JL,

A couple of questions about your exhaust system, now I know you posted this info somewhere but I couldn't find the threads.

What diameter is the tubing? Are you running cats and if so high flow or stock? If I remember right, you have an X-pipe, where did you get that?

I apologize for any inconveniece and the thread high jack.

Anyway, here is where I got my stage 8 locking bolts if anybody is interested!

I got my Stage 8's through Summit Racing.. the bolts for the 4.6 are not in the catalogue or on-line store, but if you call them and tell them what you want they will find them

So does that mean you will come out to play with us next time??? Kinda anxious to see your bird... and maybe have a go at you before my next round of mods....

I think some of us will be getting together maybe next week at Moroso.. I know I will, I have some new Hoosiers I want to try out....

I've got a great exhaust guy up here in Stuart.... $325 for true duals from the first cats back + whatever you want to spend for mufflers..

Also

there is a guy up here in Stuart with a dyno... if you're interested in getting some numbers I'll give you his number... tell him you know me and he'll only charge you double (LOL).. I'm in there about once every 2-3 weeks for numbers... $75 for three pulls w/ Air-Fuel.. $100/per hour if you want to performance tune....

The dyno guy works on saturdays too... so you can do it on a saturday,,, you just need to call him and set up a time.... I'll PM his number to ya... tell him I sent you and you have another bird... he's a ford guy... has a 9 second N/A 5.0 Mustang...

I am taking JL's advise re: the Stage 8 bolts very seriously... only 'cause he's done the kooks mod and knows what he went through... you do not want these puppies to leak, or the bolts to vibrate loose.... unless you enjoy taking you K-member down for practice..

I'll be at Moroso probably Wednesday and Friday, weather permitting, if you're ready, c/mon down... I want to get some final numbers before my next round of mods... I swear this bird will do 14's as is, and I want to try one more time..

What is the part number for the MN12 KOOK mid-lengths like you have?

Also will they bolt up to this, http://www.speedfreak.cc/products/texhaust/ exhaust system? Or will I have to come back and have the flanges cut off and re-welded further back to match to these headers.

I am not sure of any part number for the KOOKS headers, the only place I know you can get them is http://www.supercoupeperformance.com

Right now the only distributor for the Kooks headers is Super Coupe Performance.. there are only two (Kooks) choices for the MN12: 1 5/8" primary to 2 1/2" collector, or 1 3/4" primary to 3" collector... also coated or uncoated of each..

I am not familiar with the exhaust system you refer to, but if it is designed to bolt right up to the stock manifold/cats... the system will have to be modified to fit the Kooks... the Kooks are longer than the stock manifold, so any system designed to bolt up to the stock manifold/cats has to be modified to match up...

Be advised that while swapping stock exhaust manifolds for headers might be considered a simple "bolt-on" swap, not so for the MN12's it is a very tough install...... modifying your exhaust may well be the least of your efforts (headaches)... it is not impossible, however several guys have done the swap.....

Alright, thanks, I'll just have to cut and weld the down-pipes to match up with the headers. It will be awhile before I do that though as it looks like it will cost 1400-1600 for an exhaust like I want. I'd rather do the J-mod, a shift kit and gears.

Saddest thing in the world, my friends Lumina (3.1L V6 -- FWD) has more low-end torque than my bird. Once I hit 40 I started pulling on him but he had me before that. We were just goofing around since it was late and we couldnt find anything to do, we both realize our cars arent really fast or anything.

Man I don't know what kinda exhaust you're gonna get, but I had a custom true dual exhaust from the first cats back welded up with 2 1/5" pipe and Borla rear mufflers for $625 total... you might try to find an exhast guy who enjoys working on modified cars and see what he'll do for you, offer to pay him cash...

J-mod and gears are definately a good plan... I don't know about a shift kit, I don't have one.. I went for the full Bullet-Proof trans cause after I added some power, I could tell the trans was weak.. and I had the one in my (pure stock) '95 bird rebuilt recently at 30k mi, and the '96 rebuilt twice before ever modding or running her hard...

3.73 posi gears will also move the bird out of its own way real good, the Cobra aluminum pumpkin costs about $650 from Max at 5-Star Ford... 4.10's if you really want get up and go, but don't mind sacrificing hwy mileage and don't mind running the car at high rpm's all the time (noise, wear/tear)

If you want to shock your buddy in the lumina you can get some good bang for your buck with a set of Steeda (or someone's) underdrive pullies, an '02 MAF with either a K&N filter or some kind of Cold Air Induction set-up, and a chip from Apten, Reinhart or Fordchip.....

Your Lumina buddy may get you for an instant at the line, but only 'cause your tires will be spinning, when they hook, he'll be long gone in the side-view, then the rear-view mirror....

We're veering off topic here, if you want to chat about some of this other stuff, send me a Private Message (just click PM below this post)

Finally the bird is done! 02 GT motor haul's A$$! Very happy with the install. True duels from the headers to the flowmasters, and it sounds killer. The only problem I have is with the trans...no overdrive. did the Jmod 300hp and it shifts great. Not to hard at low rpm and slams when you gun it! Thanks everyone for your help and advise. -Rob

DynoGuy just had a baby, so he's out of commission for a week or so... also he needs a new pickup wire... he's not getting a consistant read... my last pull numbers were wheel speed numbers... there are gaps in the A/F and RPM graphs.. he has one on order and should have it by the time he's back in business...

I got the motor mounts yesterday and dropped em over to FordGuy... I'm hoping I can get to ExhaustGuy on Tuesday to add in the 3" free flow cats and match up the duals to the collectors...

I'll let you know about Wednesday and when DynoGuy is up and running...

Are you planning on going to Atanta in Nov???
