fipk vs gt aribox/maf/intake tube

since this wil be my 1st engine mod what would give better gains for now and down the road. i have heard that dan newman can sell the airbox maf intake tube for like 130, and i was just wondering wheter this would give more hp than the fipk. the fipk would probably be easier to0 install however but thats not my concern. peformance is my concern.

still stock...but im gonna be getting some free labor help so it won't be for long.

keep in mind you'd need a chip if you get the MAF/airbox combo. and i believe all the fipk is is a cone filter and a mounting bracket. the GT airbox is a box with a cone in it, so you dont get the hot engine air.

I'd go with the GT maf/intake tube and a chip. The FIPK is pretty much worthless.

ok those were my same thought but my real concern was im a lil strapped for cash right now and i didnt have the money for a chip just yet. i guess ill have to wait a lil longer till i get the money to get the chip. i have heard about reinhart chips and apten but are there any other chips out there and which would be the best. and is a chip/ airbox a good first mod

still stock...but im gonna be getting some free labor help so it won't be for long.

Actually the JMod is the first recommended mod, but next would have to be chip and MAF. The airbox and MAF are $130, the tube is more

i bought a used 00gt airbox and a intake tube for $50 so search around first. mine is next to new,a real good deal for the money, the guy didnt really use the two,on ebay a couple of weeks ago there was a airbox like the one you want ,was going for like $30,

i would hold off on the maf/chip buy some steeda pullies (non piggyback-style)they say its the best bang for the buck, jmod isnt expensive either

maf is $100 (used) whatever size you want "90lmaf,80lmaf,85mm etc."
reinhart chip $325(new or reflash)
99+ airbox w/intake tube $75( used average price)
steeda pullies $100 to $175(nonpiggyback,my choice in your case)

you can get a k&n cone filter for about $30-$40 at autozone and put it in place of your air box. dont waste your money on the fipk, i already made that mistake. just get the cone filter then make a heatshield yourself. i eventually plan on using the gt maf, air box, and intake tube. i'm waiting until i get my nitrous and gears though so i only have to pay for a chip reburn once. here's a pic of my current set up:

by the way, did u ever end up getting the air silencer out?

shoot for the 00 tube.....if you have to do something.....take your silencer out and do a drop in panel filter.....probably wont give you anything....just works better for cleaning...and your intake sounds nicer

Yes, there are many other chips out there, but the reason no one has told you about them in your other posts is because Reinhart and Apten ARE the best choice for our cars.

The j-mod/trans cooler/Mercon V is the best first mod. It doesn't necessarily add HP, but makes the HP you have work better, and increases the longevity of your trans. As you add power down the road these two things become very important.

You can start with the Chip/MAF mod, but one of the things that the chip is programmed to do is improve the shifting of the trans, & you won't get the full benefit of that improved performance without the J-mod.

hey guys thanks for the real quick replys. i was out doing some donuts in the snow!! to fdawg97lx: whut did you use for the heatshield box. that looks pretty damn good and i think thats what im going to do until i get the maf/airbox/chip so i wont have to reburn in the future. and also i didnt get the air silencer out yet b/c i havent really been messin with it since my ego was non existent when i couldnt figure out how to remove the entire airbox from the tube.

i am going to do the jmod as soon as the damn snow goes away and the warmer weather comes. im also looking for some help with that because i dont want to pay to have it done and i would like to learn how to do some stuff.

so it looks like its gonna be a jmod, tranny cooler, mercon v, steeda pullies, kn cone filter and custom heat shield.

those will be the first mods

still stock...but im gonna be getting some free labor help so it won't be for long.

i think its made out of lexan. i bought it from someone on here who was selling it used. its easy to make though i was just to lazy to do it. u can probly get one from some one here if you post in the wanted section, i'm sure someone has one they are looking to get rid of. or u can contact mzbird, he used to make them and sell them for $45, i'm not sure if he is still doing it, pm or email him. also another option is, cobrarthunder is selling his mac cold air intake i think for $100-$120 which is a really good price. i'm not sure if he still has it, i was gonna buy it but it wont fit under my strut tower brace.

BTW, I would never ever buy a used MAF for $100, when you can get the '02 GT MAF from Dan with airbox and filter for less that $140.

My LX wouldn't shift into 1st at one point. The tranny was working fine. I pulled the console out and there was a Canadian "Loonie" (dollar coin) stuck in the shifter mechanism. Check it out, you might end up a buck or two richer.
