ideas on new tranny

well, since my 107k mile 4r70w is about to go...what is the best way to go about a new tranny...money is a lil problem though since school starts in the fall again....i got priced at a $1200 rebuild...and that is too much...what do u guys think...asked a few people and they suggest to conver to a 98+ mustang 4r70w...if i decide to do this...what modifications need to be done to convert....also any other ideas are welcome....right now i wish i had enough $$ to get a change to a manual...

Very simple.....Repin the harness, swap the manual lever, get a new flexplate for the Mustang convertor(if you dont already have the Mustang/Mark 8 convertor),and swap it out.

Here maybe with this thread you can get an idea ,

Here's what you're gonna want to get for a rebuild:
Overhaul kit(includes seal rings,gaskets,O-rings,lip seals, seals for the front pump/ext housing, and the manual lever)
Clutch plates
Steel plates
New 5.4L truck EPC solenoid
New short reverse servo
New light-load OD servo spring
New 2.7" OD servo
Brown upper 1-2 accummulator spring
New 1-2 accumulator piston
New 2-3 accumulator piston
New reverse band
New OD band(DO NOT get a Kevlar band)
I'm gettting a total of approx $350
by ordering the parts fro Bulkpart.
and another $100 for fluid and the few items that you have to get from Ford.
If you want a new Valve body, then add about $300 for that.
Another option is to find a a '98 GT trans and rebuild it..you save $$ because it already has the mech diode and the reverse drum(about $150) and you already have the internal harness ready for the higher pressure EPC solenoid. And the valve body is better on the '98 as well($300 saved)
JL
Thanks JL

More info

The 5.4L truck tranny has all the parts, but needs the car main control(perferred) and needs a few clutches added to support high hp applications (says it supports up to 450hp) , this tranny would be great for a n/a ,sc,nos.

Just go and get a 99+ tranny out of a car , unless you really like truck trannies.

So I'm taking it that your baby is still sputtering? Did you try anything else, like cleaning your injectors? Hopefully it is not your tranny because I know how much of a pain it is. If it is...we could always try and rebuild it by ourselves .
