adapters vs. none ?

just wondering what is the advantages and disadvantages between pi intake swap with and with out the adapters. with out the adapters do you have to port match?
couldn't really find any thing definitive doing a search

so are you just wasteing 300 dollars on adpaters if there is no real disadvantage w/out them ?
maybe its worth the 300 for the extra torque j/k
