02 gt tube on 94-95

Just thought I'd let everyone in on how to do this if anyone is interested in doing it. I bought an 02 Mustang GT intake tube from Dan for 20 something dollars shipped. With the help of Brian I was able to do this and thought it might be helpful to just post it so everyone can see how it's done.

-First, you cut the tube in half right between the two vacuum hose connections. It's easy to do, you just go along the side of the raised ridge all the way around. Flip on end of the tube over.

-Cut off the vacuum connection on the tb side of the tube (the one without the plastic insert). cut it flush with the surface of the tube.

-Cut a 3" aluminum pipe about 7-8" long and cut one end at an angle. Stick the end with the angle in the tb side of the tube and put the angle in such a way that it blocks off that hole from the connection that used to be there. put the other end of the pipe in the other piece of tube and clamp both sides down tight. You can see from my pics that the hole is not clamped off, but it's tightly pressed against that aluminum pipe and it won't leak at all.

-cut a piece of 3" aluminum pipe about 2" long and stick it in the hole where the throttle body would normally go, then take the piece off the stock violin case that has the hose connection and clamp it on top of the end of the tube. The aluminum pipe will provide a hard material for clamping force.

-Now you've got a tube that will route correctly for the 94-95 and will fit upto a 90mm LMAF on the end. Believe me the 90 fits. It took about half an hour to squeeze that dang thing on there but it fits nicely. Here are the pics.

**the piece from the violin case isn't pictured because it's still on my violin case on the motor. I'm waiting for my apten chip to run the 90 LMAF.**

You just need to paint or powdercoat the exhaust tubing black to make it look good in there. I might give that a try next time I see my car.

Yeah I've got some matte black bumper paint that's real durable and I'm going to paint the tube with that when I get the chance.

For the breather tube,

1/2" ID Elbow

5/8" ID Heater hose

The 96-97 bird and the 99+stang are identical except for the size of the MAF outlet. 96-97 bird works fine for stock MAF, but those of us who went to larger have to use the 99+ stang one. Even the 96-97 boys do a direct swap to the 99+ tube when upgrading their MAF.

I am doing this part now, and holy ballz this isn't easy. fitting a 3" pipe into a 3" tube isn't that easy! but I got it after shaving a bnit of the inside of the tube with an exacto knife.

Also, this is alot more tough if you are using a STB, I have no idea how I am gonna manuever around that JL brace, it's huge!

PS this sucks...

Hey Shadow, I ran into another kink.....Can you help? I have my zex box mounted into the side of the engine bay where the airbox goes. With my Tbird K&N I have no fitment issues. NOw while trying to use the mustang GT airbox, I have run into a snag. It doesn't fit. Can I cut off the two mounting bolt hole things on the side? And would I have problems if the hole in the airbox is kinda facing the zexbox? Would I have many airflow issues?

problem is I need a kind of quick fix, I have to work tomorrow night, and I have no extra money until Friday to buy a Mustang K&N, if I need to, I don't wanna if I dont have to.

Thanks

Dave

I just used my stock airbox and flipped the rubber connector around backwards. (usually goes from big to small, I made it go from small to big.. Very tight fit, but works.) Of course I used an accufab adapter too. I know the GT Box needs to be slightly modified to fit well but I don't know what "bolt hole things on the side" you are talking about, pics would help. If I remember right the method I've heard was to cut off some of the snout of the box to get it to fit into the hole into the fender.

whitecoug has an 02 gt box and his zex solenoid sits right underneath it on the side cosest to the shock tower. You can't even see it as it sits right underneath the box. Very sleeper-like.

Just going to say that...but somebody beat me to it...If you point the rubber hosse side angled towards the motor and the feed line from the front pass. corner it should fit ok. i could only use 3 screws though, but it ain't going anywhere. and yes, you can only see the purple from about one angle...i need to paint it white and cover it with dirt to match the rest of my car

94-95's officially suck in my book!(stock)

Thanks whitecoug and Thomas.....I'll give it a whirl.

I bought it that way. I got it in the PCV section of Pep Boys. It's practically identical to what's in the drivers side head, btw just without the "pin" to keep it from moving, so that's probably what it was intended for.

Thanks SHadow....Is it for any particular vehicle or just something that looks like it?

I just finished up the wiring for the mass air, now to put stuff together to look good....

BTW: can I drive without the breather for 10 or 15 minutes to the parts store, or is that bad....

It's a generic part. Just find something 1/2" ID that makes a 90* bend. lol The heater hose is just slightly bigger (5/8" ID) so that makes it easy to get the tube on, it is still quite a tight fit. I wasn't able to pull it off to take a picture so just included the hose.

It'll be okay for a little while but I would put some tape over the hole in the airtube itself for the trip. And don't forget the small hose clamps!

SD...I found that stuff with no problemsa and I connected it, but how did you keep the elbow inside the GT tube, I cant see where a hose clamp would work. For tonite, I used electrical tape to secure it to the tube.

How'd you do it?

BTW: throttle response with the 02 MAF and a 3" intake tube is sikkk....Car is alot more reponsive.

Keep in mind that while the intake tube is reversed on the CV, the PCV system is still set up the same way ours is.

The thing is, you still need to have the pcv feeder tube come off the right side (looking from the front) unless you want to loop it all the way around the engine (don't want to kink it). Or maybe two elbows and two lengths of tubing. Just make sure you take that into account, the directions won't be exactly the same.

If you can get it to fit to the airbox fine just don't flip either piece of rubber over, just cut and place the metal tube between them so it keeps the bend going to the right and the hose connection there too.
