The Explorer Engine is what is commonly referred to as a PI Engine. Better Cam, Better Intake Manifold and on a Non-PI block, the heads will increase your compression ratio for a slight bump in power. On your 94 the Explorer Engine would be a good upgrade, because the 94/95 Heads are crap, so you can't upgrade to the PI cam without a lot of work, unless you want to swap the PI Heads, which is going to require a lot of 96/97 T-Bird parts. The Search feature should have the answers you're looking for..

search: PI Head Swap or Explorer Swap for details on either.

Just finished mine last week (the whole engine swap). Love it!

Do a search on my user name. I posted a list of what you need to reuse from the 94/95, what to get from a 96/97 and what to use from the 02 explorer.

As far as HP/TQ ratings, I believe the 94 is rated at 205/265 and the explorer is rated at 240/280. But whatever the numbers are, you will notice a difference in the seat-of-the-pants feal.

Tim,
I know he was being nice, but the previous owner has a Chevy PU 454 SS with 4:10's and he said it would probably outrun him now. Either that or he needs a tune real bad. LOL

And that's with stock computer, MAF, etc. I did go with the Mark VIII TC but still need to do the j-mod.

I am extremely satisfied with it!!!!!!!!!!

With the help of TCCoA members, this swap was really rather simple (as long as you don't have to wait 2 weeks for an engine hoist. ).
