johnny is that your original transmission? I don't see how you broke that since I have more torque than you and I have not shelled my transmission yet. I do feel that mine is geting close to the end of its life.

Blake,that's the Mechanical Diode OWC.
Steven,It's from the '98 GT trans in my car-my original was gone a long time ago,and a reman was installed by Ford under warranty. That reman is now in my daughter's '95 LX.

I know somebody else here in Texas with a car that breaks triple disk PI convertors-and he's N/A too.

I guess with 300 ft lbs of torque, high stall, and 4000 lbs of car, somethings gotta give.

C'mon Johnny, 'fess up. You broke it on purpose to give yourself an excuse for building up an all-out bullet proof. Betcha if I offer Dan enough he'll tell me that the parts were already on order BEFORE you broke it.

Maybe I better check with Jim to make sure he doesn't route my trans through Texas "by mistake." .... and the conspiracy continues.

Last week was a bad week for trans. I lost OD on this latest trans in the Lincoln. That makes 3 so far. JL takes out his and one of our other buddies smokes his PI to the point of warping the plates and turning the inside of his trans into a collection of grey particals.

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear that. Shoot me a PM when you get inside your trans, I'd be very interested to know what you find.

Must be the year of the Tranny!!

I grenaded my converter and took out hard parts as well 2 weeks ago. So for this past week at least its a stock replacement with the rebuilt PI converter and no Jmod/shift kit but it ran at least. Now to find out why the Lock-up won't work.

Hopefully, I'll get some of the issues resolved later this week.

Key word in the sequence: Virtually.
That truly is something you do not see every day. If you have to break something, at least make it spectacular! Put that up on "the mantlepiece" or something to that effect and keep that as a momento.

When my trans went, it was not pretty (no pics though). There was a large amount of stuff stuck on my trans pan magnet and floating around in the fluid.

If you need a bullit proof Jerry spec trans I have the hookup. I had ross House build one for me when the article tranny 101 came out. Put 60k hard miles on it. I had him go through it when the convertor got rebuilt and it looked brand new. A little wear on the cluthes but not bad. He upgraded a few parts with the newer ford stuff, new clutches etc . Cost me about 1700 for a fresh tranny, rebulit rearend and rebuilt convertor. Labor incuded. The convertor grabs so hard on lockup I need to tweak the eec for part throttle driving. Shifts so fast and smooth its like one gear through the 1/4 mile. His philosophy is if it hits to hard your loosing et.

He's got some good info on the new stuff out if you need some info. He basically tore apart a 03 mach 1 tranny to see what ford had been up to. The OD band smoked at 1500 miles. The stock eec lets it shift into od at WOT. They probably will be getting a bunch back under warranty. It was the MAch you help tune in Beumont.

Talking

Tim,

85k, but it's been a hard lived 85k. I recently changed the fluid and filter on it. The fluid looked really good, with minor bronze/brass particles in it. The magnet had the usual fuzz on it, but nothing looked out of the ordinary.

I know it will scatter one day, just don't know when.

Well I did not break mine like JL did but it was fried at about 30K miles or so.
Makes me wonder if Ford did a part "respecification" and lowered the quality.

meh, upgrade to a manual with reinforced gears. Then it will take less power through the drive line and be funner to drive!

Why downgrade to a manual?
I've personally seen too many broken manuals, and nowhere near as many broken autos.
