help!! thermostat leak??

I have replaced the thermostat with new o ring and it still leaks.(it only leaks a little bit) My question is, when I first opened the housing up to change the thermostat, the o ring was on the bottom of the thermostat. Is it supposed to be on top of the thermostat or below it? I know that it is not cracked for sure , just need to know what goes where . thanks guys

I'm pretty damn sure mine was on the housing side.

The O ring should be on top of the T-stat.
Some non Ford T-stats are too small in diameter so the O ring falls
into the space around the T-stat instead of sitting on top of it.
If that's the case there is no "crush" on the O ring and ..................leak.
