Need help: service engine light...

I pulled the codes and got code P0605 - Internal control module ROM error: PCM failure.
Can anyone help me out with this and tell me exactly what is the PCM? I puuled my computer to make sure the chip was in tight, but I have no idea what else to check. Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

your computer could be junk. reset it and see if it pops the same code. if it does, replace it with one that you know works and see if it comes back. there may be other things that would throw a PCM fail code, but the PCM being broken would be my first guess

to reset the PCM, pull fuse #15 under your hood, turn your key all the way(like you are starting the car). it wont start... put the fuse back in and start the car back up. drive it around at normal speed and see if it comes back.

good luck

Would my car still run smooth and powerful if the computer is junk? It seems to be running just fine now.
I am going to try the fuse test, and if that doesn't work, then I am going to try to take the chip out and put in the stock MAF and see if it still shoots the code. If so, I guess its time for a computer.
The code puller is at work, so I'll let you know how it goes tomarrow. Thanks.

if you have a chip

your computer will throw a code. is the car showing a check engine light on the dash? If not, don't worry about it.

Yeah, on the way to work the service engine light came on.
Good news though, just pulled the computer and took the chip out, cleaned everything, put back together. Then did the fuse trick, and started her up. No light!!
Took it for a 20 min drive and still no light. So, all is good right now. I'll reset the codes tomarrow, and then drive it and see if I pull any more. If not, all is good in my book.

Sure enough, the service engine light came back today after 56 miles of driving. Oh well, time to try again.

Listen to Joel.
code 605 means you have a modified PCM. doesn't mean it is wrong/bad...just different than stock.

Yeah, he's right on.
I went back to work and scanned again and got P1131: HO2S11 sensor lean. KOER or continuous DTC P1131 indicates upstream HO2S not switching fuel system at adaptive limits.
So I am going to change the front O2's and see if that takes care of the problem.

Did you get MIL eliminators when you got that custom downpipe? My friend with a 96 Stang gets weird engine codes (and I mean WEIRD codes) constantly because she didn't get MIL elimators and her O2 sensors funk up about twice a year. But alas.. she won't listen to me. JUST GET THE MILS ELIMINATORS I say.. nah, she says.
CRAZY.

Hope it's just something small. Let us know.

I had Jerry shut off the rear O2's with the chip, so that shouldn't be the problem.
The light has since gone off again, but I am going to replace to front O2's anyway.
