Sudden/Major drop in gas mileage

My 95 4.6 runs great and normaly gets 18-19mpg. Within the last 3 wks it still runs perfect, but has droped as low as 9mpg to 14mpg. Any ideas?

Have you checked the usual suspects? Air filter, plugs & wires, fuel filter, did you get gas at a different station, etc. Is it running any different than usual? It's easy to have a dead cylinder and it not be obvious.

Yup...all that checks out. No leaks, no fumes, same gas, same driving habits. Just all of a sudden started using alot more gas???

Two things come to mind....

MAF and O2 sensors (primary, or the ones closest to the engine). unplug your maf and see if milage improves... inspect your o2 sensors.

Either way running that rich is bad for your cats. You might have damaged them. If your car is pre-96 you might convice an exhaust shop to remove them (illegal to remove a working cat, but depending on the state...you might not have to put a new one on!).
