PI cams/intake

Ok, I'm pretty new here, and have seen nothing but PI vs NPI talk. What is the PI?

I have picked up that it is only to do with the 99+ 4.6's, and apparently is better.

Is it worth getting cams from the later 4.6 V8's? Or should I order some custom performance cams? If they are just dirt cheap or something, then I understand. Is there a thread on doing a NPI to PI cam/intake and maybe heads swap? Thanks.

If you have a fair amount of mechanic ability, and you can follow directions. I suggest you do the PI head w/ PI cams, and intake swap at the same time.
There is oodles and oodles of info on this swap.
SEARCH button will help you the most.
And, the tech articles have info. too, but you won't want to buy these pieces brand new because they are costly brand new. Search around on here, Corral.net/forums, and ebay for PI heads and intakes.

PI is Performance improved. 99 and newer Mustangs, 2001 and newer Crown Vics, they others I don't know much about (trucks).

The pistons, heads, cams, lower intake plenum are different than the Non Performance Improved parts. PI heads on an NPI block/pistons yeilds a higher compression ratio. I think it ends up being 10.5:1. Okay for NA, not good for forced induction.

I already did the PI lower intake plenum on my 97 Cougar. The design of it seems better for higher end breathing, the common plenum is larger, the runners are longer.

I have the cams sitting waiting for me to get off my butt and have enough time to dedicate to doing them. I am keeping the NPI heads and only going with the PI cams.

With your 94, you can't just do the cams, you need 96+ NPI heads (which were made in 95, but nothing or next to nothing got them in 95) or go all out and do the PI head and cams. Since you have to pull the heads anyways, that might be the hot ticket.

There are a ton of posts on this here and other modular Ford sites.

So, do you think it's WORTH it to just get the heads/cams/intake off a 99+ GT? Instead of just getting some actual performance minded cams and intake? I've heard the heads don't really flow that much better, that it was more in the cams and intake.

depends at what price you can find it all and if you can do the labor yourself......i personally thought it was worth it since i got a good deal on some low-mileage romeo PI heads and i did all the work myself

if you go with aftermarket intake and cams, there will be much more work to get it working optimally, ie: ported heads, kooks headers, steeper gearing, much higher stall, beefed up transmission/torque converter, etc, as most of these are meant for high-RPM HP

iceman if you are looking for PI cams, Intake... I might be selling mine. Depends on what this tranny problems turns out to be. But the camshafts are out of an 03 GT and have bolt on sprockets so you don't have ot take the front cover off the engine.. and the intake is off an 01 Explorer. Its the complete top. T/B, plenum, fuelrails everything still attached. The guy I bought the cams from told me they have about 35K miles on them. If you are interested shoot me a PM and I'll let you know in a couple of weeks if they will be sold or not.
