96-98 GT engine

Is the 96-98 Stang GT 4.6 engine EXACTLY the same as a 96-7 4.6 Bird engine? Any differences I should know about? I know they're basically the same, but are they an EXACT match?

Also, is the 99-04 Mustang GT 4.6 (PI) engine the EXACT same as a 02 explorer engine (PI)? What are the differences?

I'm looking at retrofitting an shaker intake kit for a stang on a motor I can put in a bird, whats my closest option, as for everything to bolt up right?

The Explorer Motor is aluminum, the GT motor is not. The 96-98 Mustang/T-bird I don't know about.

The motor itself is the same in the 96-98 mustangs as in the 96-97 birds. It will have different exhaust manifolds, a different oil filter housing, and possibly different motor mounts and coolant necks, but nothing that you won't be able to swap from your bird motor. As for the shaker hood scoop, I don't know what you will need to do to make that work. I seriously doubt everything will bolt up, and even if it does, you will have to cut a hole in your hood, and possibly get a cowl hood and cut a hole in that. Good luck.

If you do get the shaker to work, be sure to post pics of the finished product and the procedure. I'd love to have a shaker scoop!

Well, I am thinking about doing it for a project car. It's a 94, and I hate the lights on those, so I'd be doing a hood/headlight swap. I plan on buying a kit, making sure it works, and THEN cutting the hood. As far as it "bolting" up right, I am pretty confident it would. It's not like it's replacing the intake or anything, it's just for looks. Has 3 brackets that hook up to alt brackets and other things, then the shaker bolts to the brackets.

This is definately in the works if I get this project car. It needs a new engine, and I'm trying to figure out if I can go PI exploder with it, or if I should just stick to the NPI bird engine, so this intake thing will work.

I think you would have a better chance of everything bolting up if you use the PI motor since the 94/95 style intake was never on any mustangs. If you do the PI motor and use the newer style intake, then the top of your motor will be the same as the top of a mustang motor.

I will be putting a 96-7 NPI Thunderbird engine in this one. The 95 style is out of the question, it wont fit.
