new alternator and still not charging right
So one week after the alt went out on my V6 I notice the battery light was on in my V8. The voltmeter was running low so I turned on my CD player which has a built in voltmeter. It was staying at around 10-10.5. I made it home and parked it since I had to head to work that night and didn't have the time to mess with it.
So a week or so later I got around to changing the alternator and I'm still having the same problems. The battery light is still on and the voltmeter on my CD player is reading about 11.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm not a genius by far when it comes to cars but I try to do all of my own work for the learning experience and the charging system seems pretty straight forward.
The only other thing that I can think of is the belt might be slipping. The belt was put on when I did the engine swap which means it has less than 5000 miles on it but I had a power steering leak(mercon V) that was causing the belt to wear and spraying black dust. It's possible that the belt has stretched from that. I picked a new one up this morning but haven't had a chance to change it yet.
