96 lx wiring

i have a 96 lx with the 3.8 and i have a chance to get a 95 xlr with a 4.6. would the wiring from the cat plug and play with the bird?

by plug and play i mean the main harness under the hood. could i strip the underhood wiring from the 95 and hook it up into the 96 or would that require splicing

I know that for the 3.8, the connectors changed for the sensors from 95 to 96. I would assume the same is true of the 4.6. I know the MAF sensor plug changed for the 4.6 from 95 to 96, so I'll assume that other things like the IAC, TPS and many other connections changed as well. So assuming that is the case, no you wouldn't be able to use it without splicing a new connector onto each and every sensor/component for the engine that is different.

you guys are still thinking that i want to use the orig 3.8 engine bay wiring. what i want to do is pull the engine bay wiring from the 95 and put it into the 96. would that work plug and play wise

Oh ok. Now that I see that, no it wouldn't be a plug and play deal. There's a few issues with that. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the wiring that goes from the underhood connector to the computer is different. Also, you'd need to get change the wiring to the MAF sensor area because in 95, the cars still used an EDIS module for spark control. I'm not sure what else you'd run into.

damn i was hoping for an easy swap over for that nice old v8. if i can get the car i guess i will turn it into a drag car because she is kinda rough. or i could sell it on here.

Don't know about MN12s but...

On my firebrd I usta own, there was a different stackup in the unibody for the V8 engines... frame flex from H*ll with a V8 in a V6 car...in the V8's there was an extra 18 gauge pan welded in.

not sure about ours, tho...

If you have the whole car...

You can definately swap them; you might have to swap the whole wiring harness, but WTF...these V8s rock!

I'd look at the electronic modules' wiring, and decide how much you need to swap, and whether you want to spend that much time...

It would surprise me if no one else had ever done this, with all the other swaps I see here...
