Gas smell in Oil

Ok so I have a 94 bird with the 4.6 in it. It starts up, runs rough, blow smoke like crazy, and if I try and rev it up it makes it to about 1700 then spits and spudders.
Pulled the dip stick out and the oil has a fuel smell to it.

I got the car like this, dont know how long the person tried to drive it like that, I havnt, just on the trailer and off.

Just wondering what I am lookin at possibly before I even tear the motor apart, just to get an Idea of what I am in for.

Any help/ideas appreciated.

You didnt state what color the smoke was,but based on your description,I would guess its black.
From your other descriptions,it sounds like youve got a fuel delivery problem, actually to much fuel, its flooding the eng.which accounts for gas smell in oil,its probably loaded your cats, and they are partially/or completely plugged,so no high revs
I would check the fuel delivery at the engine first, press.regulator, injectors etc.
If it just started, cats may be ok,but your going to have to change oil, quickly,or you will cause more damage then whats already there.

most likely the pcm is faulty hanging 1 or 2 fuel injector open.

94-95 v8 mn12 notorious for the pcm to go out. either hang inctor open or no signal to fuel injector.

check into that one, and change the oil real quick.

Cleaning the MAF sensor can't hurt, and might be the problem.

Also, bad plugs or plug wires could be possible.

Is the Check Engine Light on?

That would be my guess also. You can see if anyone on here is parting out a 94/95 and grab the EEC from them. Preferably an EEC from a 95.

Ok so I am unsure how long this has been an issue with the car because I bought it like that. I had a 95 before that did something like this one is doing but that just ended up being plugs. Wasnt so lucky with this one.

The smoke is white, and has a strong fuel smell to it. After I got it home(trailered) I changed the plugs, wires, tried a different coil pack that I new was good, I had a K&N cone filter from my 95 that I put on it right away and checked the MAF sensor then. Other then these things I havnt done anything else to it yet.

This is why I was confused because I thought white smoke was antifreeze so I figued it was a blown head gasket.

I had thought about the cats being plugged and was always gonna disconnect the exhaust just to check but havnt done it.

The car runs with no check engine light coming on but the oil pressure gauge claims to have no oil and the check gauges light is on, but I think the gauge or sending unit is messed up on that because once it did flicker and was running with normal oil pressure then quit again.

How much would an EEC cost about?

This is why I come to you guys, get your thoughts before I start turning to many bolts.

10 or 20 bucks give or take from someone on here. Shouldn't cost that much.

Definately sounds like the EEC. . . . .I had to replace the O2 sensors on mine when it did this. Come to think about it I had to replace 2 fuel injectors also because of the stupid computer. I thought since I was going to replace 2 fuel injectors, why not replace 8, and I did!

Currently In the Short Bus Garage:
2 - '94 T-bird LX's 4.6L (one with 300,000+ miles and one with 200,000+ miles)
1 - '97 Mark VIII LSC - INTECH V8 (120,000+ miles)
1 - '97 F150 XLT 4x4 Flareside, 4.6L (130,000+ miles) - Currently being dismantled and rebuilt with upgrades!
1 - '00 Mustang GT (likes to accelerate with the brake on!), 4.6L (60,000+ miles - only comes out when I need to get somewhere fast.)

oh yeah, and they all have 4R70W's

on my 94 before it also have the symptom of headgasket blow. you know, the steamy exhaust even on warm day. i suspect it might be bad intake gasket or something because the oil is clear as water but yet still losing coolant and the steamy exhaust. this is after the pcm change which fix the no signal to 2 of the injector. bought a headgasket replacement kit and tear down only until intake manifold. then decided too much of a job for me then installed everything back using the stock stuff and no more steamy exhaust. the oe intake manifold have a tell tell sign that it leak coolant into the intake manifold.carefully repositioned the gasket and torque it down and it's all fix.

On pre-96 cars, the EEC is not the sole control unit of the car, however it controls like 90% of it. Pre-96 cars have an EDIS module (Electronic Distributorless Ignition System) that controls the spark timing for the car, but other than that everything is pretty much left up to the EEC (transmission, fuel delivery, emissions control, etc.)

I'm pretty sure this is only a 3.8 thing. Anybody else?

Nope the 94-95 4.6 uses an external EDIS as well. I just replaced mine a couple months ago

Yes they will probably know it by the name PCM (powertrain control module) computer, EEC. If they still don't understand tellthem it's the one in the passenger side kick panel

Umm, I thought the EEC hanging the injectors open was a 94 problem. Is it?
