Question 4.6 engine just died

My 97 4.6 just died. It started after sitting for 1/2 hour, but died after driving it 1/10 mile. The check engine light comes on while the key is on, but not while the engine is cranking trying to start.
I am thinking it is a crank sensor.....what else should I be looking for?
I appreciate the help...Thanks
