Travelers Fix-it-Meet II

I think I'm set to get it done. If I don't have to pull any heads I've got all that I need here already. We'll have to pull the parts from the engine in the GT to complete the engine in the garage, then put the engine tranny combo in the GT. I'm free next weekend and every other weekend after that. Who can make it and when?

Guys, I really could use the help. I'm in a bind here. No vehicle, and no money to pay someone to do it. Doesn't have to be memorial day weekend, but sometime after that?

Michael, See if you can get in touch with Jim, since he has the awesome hoist. If Jim has time, and can pick me up, we could get it done this weekend. That would give us an extra day if we NEEDED it, too.

I can probably get a hoist, if you can get down here.

This weekend would be great, I was just expecting everyone to have memorial day plans.

Just when you think things have to look up, because your month couldn't possibly get any worse..... I mean what else could they throw at you, your girlfriend dumped you, the engine in the car blew, you're in debt up to your eyeballs.....

This happened. I took took the cover that had been on the blue car and put it on the red car. I took the cover off of the red car to check under the hood and found this. Its that oooey goooey window sealant from off of the blue car, it must have gotten on the cover when it was on LE and transferred it to the GT.

I'll be sooo glad when this ends. I'm beginning to feel like Job. (read your bible)

Quoted this for confirmation.

Had a thought this evening. Ryan, remember how the passenger side cam was hard to get on, and we had to really pull on the sprocket to get it on? The chain was fairly tight? What do you think the chances are that the chain snapped? And if it did what would that do?

I haven't pulled the cam cover yet to be sure but I think its a possibility.

I've really never seen a chain break, but ya' never know. If it did break, there'd likely be PTV contact, meaning you would need all new valves in that head. Pull the valvecovers first. You'll be able to tell if the chain came off from there.

If thats the case, you've got a choice of headswapping the LE, or motorswapping it. Personally I would choose the motor swap.

Yea, I'd much rather do an engine swap than a head swap. Besides, pulling the engine would make putting in the TC and tranny easier as well. (Thought I'd forgotten about that didn't you?)

I've got a perfectly good SOHC in the garage that will just bolt in. Unless you want to put up the funds for a DOHC swap, I'll stick with what I've got on hand.

Bah, damn the money. I swear if I win the lotto or something, we'll all run 10's! Haha!

Ryan, no Terblows yet. We'll see where this house offer goes, and then go from there. I at least want to get it back to DD status. If things work out, I'm thinking about mebbe a DOHC swap. How much you think that would run?

Well, I've got the CAI off and I discovered moisuture and condensation in it and the MAF. I've never come across it before, so is this a bad thing? What could cause it, what could it cause?

I'd say most definitely. I pulled another plug and used a flashlight to see down into the cylinder. Its full of what looks like antifreeze, and maybe some oil. I'm going to pull all the plugs and turn it over a couple times but it doesn't look good. I think maybe a head gasket blew, and somehow filled the cylinders with antifreeze.

Was my first guess. I wonder which side blew.... If you had the option, what would you do: Fix the HG on one side, swap the motor, or do a headswap?

Given my druthers, I'd prefer to replace the engine transmission with the ones in the Garage. I don't know what kind of damage the shortblock may have sustained, and putting in the set up from the LE would give me peace of mind, a j-modded transmission, and a Mark VIII TC.

Who's up for the 9th?

Hey Traveler,

You get that crud off your red GT? What did you use if you did?

Don't worry about the girlfriend, you're free to concentrate on the car. Maybe she'll call you, who knows. Just focus on the car for now......
