Unhappy 1997 tHUNDERBIRD 6/ 3.8 am IN NEED OF SUGGESTIONS

Has anyone ever had one of these birds start when the weather is warm outside and not when it is cold? when it doesnt start everything is there for start, air, fuel, spark it just wont fire up. replaced a very nasty fuel filter. problems continues. on a warm day 55 or above she fires up as usual. rough idle in dr./reverse just fine in park and N. any suggestions?????? I have no cruse control now when it does start vacuum maybe??? any ideals to get bird on the road in the winter.

Hey Matt. Wanted to send personal thanks from myself and from my sister. She's on the phone now telling me all you did to diagnos her car. Kudos for going above and beyond. I told her to get on here and ask for help. (I'm just not good with V6's)

Yes, dsajangels is my sister and she drives my old V6 Bird.

Now, can anyone hook me up with a good used fuel pump for a 3.8?

Hey, got a new possibility. Does anyone know if a stock MAF from a 97 4.6 (I.E. mine) will fit in a 97 3.8 (I.E. my sisters?) She might be needing a new one, and I happen to have an extra one if the 4.6 MAF will fit. Again trying to make her car run with no money.

PS. Matt, they got the new fuel pump installed, and it did start! Thanks a bunch. Now it just idles real rough if it idles at all.

I know the housings are the same, I'm not sure if the electronics are different though. Plug it in and find out!

LOL Thanks. I know the housings are the same, and according to a local parts store they have the same parts number. So I'm going to be shipping it to sis.

Well, she's had it rediagnosed, and apparently the fuel pump is bad. (Don't know if its the same bad one, or the used one she bought) but at any rate she's getting it put in this Sunday.

BUT, this post is to let you all know she'll want to sell it by Late March/Early April. I'm here to see if there is any interest and even if there isn't what do you think its worth?

The Car:

1997 Thunderbird LX V6
172,000 miles
Prairie Tan in and out
auto headlamps
auto climate control
Scotts gauge face (white)
Good 245/60/15 tires (I bought them right before she got the car)
Body and interior are good/solid

I believe the engine/tranny to be solid in spite of the miles, its just got the fuel problem that will hopefully be fixed soon.

Flaws:
See above posts +
minor damage to left front corner/corner light (mostly corner light)
peeling clearcoat from left fender

These pics are old (from when I owned it) but they are still fairly accurate. The peeling clearcoat on the bumper was fixed before she got the car, but it is peeling on the fender now (probably due to the minor damage to the left fender). It should give you a good idea of what it looks like though.
