XCAL2 for sale

Anyone need an XCAL2?
SCT is not making these anymore. You either pull out the big bucks and spend $500 or get an XCAL2.

This was tuned for 97 Tbird Sport.

It has "Race Tune", "Economy Tune", and "Stock"

Just Curious....

Yes vin locked unless returned to stock. It can be burned for other cars, I would like to purchase it, depending on price.

What is the computer code? You might have a better chance selling it with that info. Also returning it to stock will take the VIN lock off.

Rob, FordChip is local to us. Pete knows his stuff as he has been selling and tuning SCT products since the beginning. We can also do a dyno tuning session as well. If you are interested, let me know and we can get ahold of Pete. Maybe we can split the cost of the dyno time, I think I will only need a couple of pulls.

CAR will be returned to stock tune. I wouldn't sell a "useless" XCAL2!

From what I've seen, they sell for $250ish when they are UNLOCKED.

If I am wrong, and way out of line, let me know.

Plus, you guys are all relatively local. We can meet up, you can test it out, and it's guaranteed to work.

FYI- I did put a piece of clear packaging tape around the unit, to protect the screen. It's been that way since the day I bought it. I just don't want it to scare anyone. I simply did it to make sure nothing scratched the screen, and it has kept it in mint condition.

Local guys - Call if you are serious about buying this. I'll throw it in my car. If you call, we can meet up and test her out and you buy! I'm PRETTY much free everyday after 5pm. Rtalber - we're very close. I live in Canton. We could meet somewhere on 96.

I am interested, need to find out how much for a flash for my new Mark VIII I got today. I think the new ones are $425 with a tune, so $250 plus $100 I could only Save $75, the newer ones are even better from what I hear.

I guess it all depends on how much SELF tuning you plan to do. If you don't plan or know how to hook up a laptop to the XCAL and drive around and change parameters, then you probably won't be using any of the features that the XCAL3 has over the XCAL2.

I never did any custom changes, so for me, it wouldn't matter what DEVICE holds my tune. I don't know enough to be hooking up a laptop and changing parameters. The XCAL2 has this ability as well, so I'm assuming the XCAL3 just has even MORE things to mess around with.

Is there a certain price that would make it more "worth" to you? $225?

You would be better off finding the code on your car and selling it to someone who can use it as-is. I am not trying to down play your sale, but I don't want someone to be upset that they have bought something that isn't usable to them without extra money being spent. The real value to someone would be if they own the Pro Racer Pack and re-program or if someone happens to have the same computer code.

Ford Chip is cheaper then $410 I think. $220 would be a good deal for the hardware

I agree. BUT, if you do not have a tune or a Device, and you want to get your car dynotuned, then this is a good idea. Why buy a NEW Xcal2 for $425, and then still have to pay to get it DYNO'd locally?

If Rob isn't interested, there is another guy who wants it. $100 is $100. Why not save money, even if its only $75-$100?

Whether someone buys it $225 and USES the tune, or they go and GET a Dyno Tune, they still save at least $100. If someone who buys it and USES the tune, they save $200. So, it's a GREAT deal for someone who can use the tune, but it's still $100 saved for someone who buys their own tune.

I want to sell it locally

Sorry for the slightly off topic question.
Do these let you custom adjust your timing, air fuel ratio and shift points?

Yes..and No.

The "on device adjustments" IF that device is even capable of ODA depends on the version of firmwear on the device.

If I'm not mistaken it has to be FW version 1.14 or above to support "on device adjustment".

With that said.

IMHO on device adjustment is CRAP, it doesnt give you the control you need to properly tune a car.

yes you can change timing in very small increments
from 0-2000RPM
from 2000-4000RPM's
from 4000-6000RPMS

Fuel ratio can be changed by 10% which is a global adder or subtractor.
This is NOT the way to adjust your fuel.. never will a "global adder" properly tune your car.

A car might need 10% taken off the top end, but might need to add 10% to the bottom end. Which end do you adjust? you cant adjust BOTH.
(see what I mean about on device adjustment? it sucks)

And the shift points adjustments are MPH based adjustments..which may not provide the "control" you are seeking.

If you want "full control" of this device you need the 300.00 software.

a "good price" for a used Xcal is 100-150.00

If the original car was "flashed back to stock" the Xcal is STILL "vin married" to the car, but can be unlocked by the "end user" using extreme tune.
But then you only have 4 changes left rather than the 5 a new Xcal comes with.

What didn't work?

Did it give you the "wrong vehicle" error?

power up the device, scroll down to "device info" then hit the select button twice.

It should display the "firmware" version and the status of the device.

Does it say
Stock or unused?
or does it say "aftermarket"?

If it says "stock" and it's giving you the "wrong vehicle" error, then you need to download "extreme tune" and unlock the vin lock.

IF it says "aftermarket" using Extreme tune wont work it's got to go back to SCT to be unlocked.

hope this helps.

I'm going to go thru what I've found so far.[

Did it give you the "wrong vehicle" error? Yes.

power up the device, scroll down to "device info" then hit the select button twice.
It should display the "firmware" version and the status of the device.

It says V1.3 and SN=large string of hexadecimal numbers

Does it say
Stock or unused?
or does it say "aftermarket"?

No menu I can find says either. I downloaded the manual, and followed it thru.

If it says "stock" and it's giving you the "wrong vehicle" error, then you need to download "extreme tune" and unlock the vin lock.

It says "return to stock" as an option. It's locked, I'm pretty sure.

IF it says "aftermarket" using Extreme tune wont work it's got to go back to SCT to be unlocked.

It wont connect to read anything from livelink or extreme tune; it resets the xcal2 at the point it tries to connect. I think it has to go back for repair, most likely; it looks pretty rough.

Was the package insured? Maybe something happened during shipment. Regardless, you should get your money back on that one, especially at the price you paid.

press the select button again and it will show you additional device status
should say "stock, unused, or aftermarket".

If I'm not mistaken you have a "too new" firmware for extreme tune to work with that device... SCT updated the firmware and killed support for extreme tune.

My 1.11 version Xcal will talk to Extremem tune, wheras my 1.4 version will not.
