Lifter Oil Holes

Finally getting around to replacing head gaskets on my '95 3.8. When removing the lifters from their bores in the block, I noticed that the oil, pressure bleed holes in the sides of the lifters were oriented "up" in some cases and "down" in most cases. If they are oriented down the holes line up with small oil holes in the sides of the bores. If they are "up" they don't. Is this significant in any way? Does it matter which way they are oriented?

Thanx,
