starter problems...

Hi, I am having problems with my starter (94 cougar 3.8).. 2 new starters and an ignition switch later i am still having problems. When i turn the key sometimes she wont wanna start, if i let it sit she fires right up.Doesnt matter if hot or cold. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I dont have the book, is there a relay other than the solenoid on the starter? Does anyone have a diagram for the the large fuses under the hood explaining what they are? I am going crazy and broke on this...please help!!!

Does it try and crank or does it do nothing? I has a prob where it doesn't try and crank (no clicking involved), I never did fix it, but a thread I found (search stryker) said that the starter kill relay needed to be replaced. I would check my grounds first if I were you though.

Winter mods included:
- Developing Rocker Rust
- Saggy Suspension - fixed!
- Chipped paint
- I'm sure more to come... TOTALED

Crank but no spark:

You can try checking for spark during the time it will not start.

Or you can check fuel pressure at the time it wont start.

Than go from there.

No crank:

Ground's like 94mncouga said. They are very important. Even a loose ground is bad.

have you actually tried making sure your positive connection is good and tight, and clean? I was having the same problem, installed new starter, then battery. Would start a few days, then would go out and just CLICK.....nothing. Found out it was a bad connection to the positive on the battery. Cleaned the post, tightened it up, and no problem.
