Wireing a 3.8 sc motor

Hey all-

I am going to be swapping a 89 sc motor into my ranger.... i was wondering if anyone could tell me if i can use a newer harness to allow OBD2 to make the tuning easier.

No 3.8SC was ever OBDII from the factory if that is what you mean. Even the 94/95's were OBDI.

Personally I would use a 99 or up 3.8L Mustang harness. I believe that a number of tuners support that ECM such as Diablo Sport or SCT Pro Racer. The Diablo Sport part number is U7146 and I am unsure of the part number for the SCT Tuner.

I also wanted to say that this is going to be a very cool swap. I was going to do the same swap in my 92 Ranger but I have had so many other problems with my Thunderbird I couldn't even think about another swap. Please keep us updated with progress and video. Also what transmission are you going to use? I was going to use the stock M5R1 to cut costs and since it would be a direct bolt in. What are you planning on using for motor mounts as well? Glad to hear there is some one out there thats doing this swap. I really wanted to do it back in the day but I needed my truck to go to work.

You won't find an OBD II harness that will drop right in place, but it certainly could be wired and run as an OBD II system.

I'm running an OBD II system in my DOHC 90 XR7, and it certainly does reduce the hassle of tuning and datalogging.
