EGR Tube Availability, Other options?

I'm taking the Parts Bin Special back to the shop. When they replaced the intake gaskets to cure a bad coolant leak (THANK GOD IT WASN'T THE HEAD GASKETS!!), they replaced my rusted out tube with a rubber hose. They told me that the EGR tubes were obsoleted by Ford and not available.

Long story, shorter, they left my DPFE unplugged. When I found the connector from the computer and plugged it in, I think I blew that hose they put in. I only hear noise when I have a load on the engine.

Anyone have a source for EGR tubes for a 3.8?

Another idea, will the Mustang tubes work as they are available?

Or is this just another justification to Splitport the engine because I'd have to put in a Mustang EGR tube if I did that?

The Parts Bin Special is DEAD! It is being parted out.

Wait a sec, so you had a coolant leak.... so why are they changing the egr tube to a hose now? Did they break it or something?
hmm the reason it was a tube was cause it got really hot with exhuast gases... and it had pretty hugh psi going through it. i've never heard of anyone using a hose successfully.

Xan, when I picked up the car in December, they said the EGR tube rusted through. I am now thinking they broke it and couldn't find a new one.

yeah that sounds closer too it. I've had a problem like this before with a shop. Make them show you it next time, theres alot of shops that try to screw you out of all your cash. I highly, highly, highly suggest you don't delete your egr on these newer cars, unless you wanna shorten your engines life and LOSE power. interesting egr read. ford dealers ussaly can get these, if not a junk yard can pull them for you or you can pull it.

Ok, I'm on the lookout for another EGR for the car from a boneyard.

I had an idea. How hard is it to fab up some EGR tubes? What kind of material am I looking at, and what kind of tools will be necessary? If a manual Brake tube bender is all. I would be game for making up a number of these.

The rubber tube will just over heat and blow. You'll have to find a new or used one that isn't broken. Make them pay for it.

RELLIK,

Would the aluminum stand up to the heat of the exhaust? Also, wondering about the possibility of electrolysis with the Iron Header.

I'm not putting you down, just asking the stupid questions.

alasich,

You can't remove the EGR without a chip or tuner to remove the EGR functions. Also, there are many threads here that explain how removing the EGR hurts your performance.

I would get the tube carefully welded. I had a broken tube, and it caused a huge vacuum leak and various CEL and MIL codes, plus the engine ran like CRAP.

thanks, i think i may just end up getting a new one, or see if one from a parts car is available, im going to a local junk yard on wednesday. My car seems to run fine with the leak, but is annoying as hell... maybe thats why i'm only getting 15mpg in the city...

RELLIK,

I lived in CT for 6 years, yet I still can't parse your last post to understand what you said.
