Engine runs like crap after intake overhall

Argh.... I got it all back together and checked everything and the car runs like crap. No power, won't shift right is idleing low.

I checked the spark plug order, twice and it is correct - 1-4-2-5-3-6.

Aligned the distributor to what the book (Cougar Service manual) says on how to align it, (I did not take out).

I have new spark plugs on the left side and will do the right side if I can get it to run right. I have a few other things to do, but for the most part, it should run fine.

The next thing I was going to do was hook up a timing light to see if each plug wire has spark on it.

It was weird that it would not shift right either.

What did I forget to connect, or plug up or ????

Not shifting right almost sounds like TPS. Check that and double check for vacuum leaks.

Does anyone know if the upper intake has more than one vacuum line on it? I know of one but was wondering if I missed one. Anyone have pics of the upper intake lower portion where the vacuum lines come off?

I pulled the TPS and it looked very clean, not much to tell from that though.

I ran diags.
All 6 cylinders are firing.
I played with the timing, but there is no scale on the balancer to adjust the timing, just the TDC mark.
I set the timing to get 750 RPM.
Ran codes and got 111, no codes on KOEO.
Got code 632 with KOER test.

Still runs like crap.

When I add fluid, do I need to remove the bypass cap? Last time I did that water went everywhere - flying out of the bypass.

Code 632 is for the TRS, Transmission Range Sensor or MLPS. But my Snap-On code tester goes up to 1993 and mine is a 1994, but technically it could be considered a 93. Anyway, I don't think the code reader was set to read codes with cars that have the 4r70w tranny.

Still trying to figure out how working on the intake did something to the TRS switch...

Tested the TPS and it passed. Has a good ground, good +5v and the signal is continuous from .9v to 4.5v, no glitches or rough acceleration of voltage levels.

Still scratching my head. What did I forget to connect? Does the PCM have a connection up to the intake that I could have broken or something like that?

Looking up the code 632, I find from the Actron web site that a code 632 for my car is a "Traction Control System Did Not Change States".

say WHAT?

It was the vacuum line to the fuel regulator on the fuel rail. Had a big crack in it. I also replaced the connection for the main vacuum line under the upper intake.

I adjusted the timing again and it shifts correct now as well as runs much better. I could still do a little more of a tune up on it to get to run even better.

Next is to drain the engine oil and flush the radiator and put a new air filter in.

What a car

Damn if I am not amazed at how much better my car runs after replacing the intake gaskets, spark plugs, engine oil and coolant! Adding in setting the timing and some vacuum lines as well.

Nice little engine when it's not blowing head or intake gaskets.
