What is this called and where can I order one?

I know it is part of the Coolant System Air Bleed valve, but I don't know what the plastic warning message thingy is called. Any ideas?

I remember seeing that on my 1994 Cougar. When I bled mine, the bolt seemed to do all the sealing, and I'm not sure the plastic piece was actually a gasket.

LOL! I know. I was trying to get the name of it so I could order another one without having to go to the junk yard for a $1 item.

No, it is not a gasket, but an insignia to let car owners know what to do with it without having to read the manual. The material is a hardened plastic and after time becomes brittle. I was moving my lower intake on the bench and popped mine off its mount, basically breaking it. I think I will just glue it back together and put some gasket material inside as a brace.

Thanks for the comment.

Its a splash shield for when you vent the air from the cooling system.

I bought a bunch of these from the Ford dealership a few years back. From what I recall there were less than 20 in the nationwide database when I was hoarding them. I may have a spare if you cant find it elsewhere.

Coolant Refill Procedure (3.8L)

With the entire cooling system drained, the following procedure should be used to ensure a complete fill.

1.Install block drain plug, if removed, and close draincock located at bottom of radiator.

...With engine off, add 50 percent of total coolant system capacity with specified coolant concentrate to radiator.

...Refer to Specifications for refill capacities.

...Then, add water until it reaches the radiator fill neck seat.

...Caution: Less than 30 percent, coolant concentrate may cause engine corrosion and overheating.

...NOTE: Remove vent plug on water bypass elbow (located on intake manifold behind water outlet connection).

...CAUTION: The vent plug must be removed before radiator fill or the engine may not fill completely.

...Do not turn plastic cap under vent plug or the gasket may be damaged.

...Do not try to add coolant through vent plug hole. Install vent plug after filling radiator and before starting engine.

2.Install radiator pressure cap to first notch to keep spillage to a minimum.

3.Start and idle engine until upper radiator hose is warm. (This indicates thermostat is open and coolant is flowing through entire system.)

4.Remove cap carefully and top off radiator with water.

5.Install cap on radiator securely.

6.Fill coolant recovery reservoir to FULL COLD mark with specified coolant concentrate, then add water to FULL HOT mark.

...This will ensure a proper mixture in coolant recovery bottle.

7.Check for leaks at radiator draincock, block plug and vent plug.

The part that is in red could have saved you from breaking the "plastic cap/gasket"..

For future reference I'm going to add the Ford Part Number for the plastic cap/gasket combo..

That is Ford Part Number (E9SZ-8C309-A) or (E9SZ8C309A)

There is a couple of these NOS floating around..

Here's a link to both sellers-->>NOS suppliers

It looks like our fellow members will probably be able to help you out, but for anyone else looking they can use the link..

Thank you Rayo! That is the way my service manual says to do it as well as the last time I did this, I followed the same process. Though I learned the hard way the correct process when I was going by some other person's notes and had fluid all over the engine when I had the vent plug off and started the engine!

Yeah, pretty stupid.

Oh, I broke the "gasket" when I was cleaning the underside of the intake on my bench and lifted it up and the gasket hooked on the underside of the table and broke.

Contact Rodeo Joe, I did not take the one he had when I bought the cap from him. His post is at the beginning of this thread. Chat him and see if he still has it.
