Lower Intake Manifold Bolts

Hello again! So I was finishing up the intake gasket job I was doing (last post) and as i was tightening down the Lower Intake Manifold and one the bolts snapped. I had to order a new head, (after A. chewing up the old one getting the bolt out, B. breaking a remover head in the bolt), and I'm trying to find a bolt set that could replace the old one to prevent this from happening on the left side, but I am having no luck..

Any suggestions?

Whaddya mean I can't have another? This one is Black and you love black!

Check eBay? I'm sure you should be able to find something there.

I presume a 5.0HO since you say "lower intake"?

ARP - The Official Site |*Ford - Small Block - Windsor*Kits and select "Intake"

If you meant the UPPER intake to lower intake bolts - I had to pick those up at a local fastener shop.

And if it's not a 5.0HO, maybe which motor you're working on?

Even though the 3.8 isn't a Windsor motor, doesn't it use the same intake bolts? (Question - I dunno, just asking.)

Sorry for the confusion, my Chilton refered to it as the "Lower Intake Manifold" but yea Rodeo Joe hit the nail on the head, 1996 3.8 no luck on eBay they only have the manifolds themselves.

Are you looking for new bolts, or would used suffice? I have a scrap 3.8 from my 1996 Cougar I can get these from if you want them. I'm fairly certain these are the same for the splitport engines as well, which would open up your search if you wanted new.

If you can't find a full set, then do this.

1) Using a depth gauge, measure how deep the holes are that the intake mounting bolts go into.

2) Note the thread size of all of them.

3) Measure how thick the intake is at each mounting point.

4) Add the #1 and #3 measures together; this is your maximum bolt length, and by not counting the gasket, you've bought a bit of margin.

5) Pick bolts that are the NEXT SHORTER LENGTH (i.e., if you measure 2.28" then use a 2.25" long bolt) and pick them up at a bolt store (not Home Depot or Lowe's; look for something with a name like "Shreveport Bolt And Nut" that has a motto like "We screw you right!" or so ... )

Torque wrench. Get one, it'll prevent over tight and snapped bolts in the future

I pulled these from my scrap engine yesterday. Turns out they are not the same as the splitport engine. I didn't have time to clean them or measure them but I will do that this evening and post pics and size info.
