roller rocker arm on '82 3.8 V6 Post #1

Hi Fox-lovers!

I plane to put roller rockers on my engine.
I red on the Coolcats.net that the stock rocker arm ratio is 1.7. How much ratio have I to buy, 1.7? I saw that many roller rockers available for the 5.0 V8 engines, I think I will buy from those.
I bought a camshaft and I saw:
"Valve lift is calculated with zero lash and rocker ratio of 1.6"
So, what is it with the 1.6 ratio?
Have I 1.7 or 1.6 ratio roller rockers to buy?
I'm confused please help
Thanks
Robi

Hi. I think you have 1.6 ratio rockers ... but I'm not sure. The 89-97 Thunderbirds have a 1.73 ratio.

There is some room to increase or decrease your ratio ... many people with the later V6 go from 1.73 to 1.8. That gives more effective lift with the same cam. So, you would probably be safe with the 1.7 ratio either way ... see what I mean?

I searched the Internet for the exact ratio of your rockers, but couldn't find it. You may be able to get the info from a Ford dealer. Or, if you call the manufacturer of the roller rockers, they may be able to guide you to the best product for your car.

I hope this helps!

P.S. - I like the Fox-body cars, too. Just in case you didn't notice, the main focus of this site is the MN12 cars ... the 89-97 Thunderbird and Cougar. There is probably a forum out there with more information specifically about the Fox Thunderbirds, but I don't know any, other than Coolcats.net.
