water pump issue

i have a 96 t-bird 3.8 and i getting a loud sqeeking from under the the hood. i think it is possibly the water pump but not sure. the belt is 6 months old and just replaced alt. any help or suggestions will be welcome.

Try taking the belt off and turn the pump by hand. If it doesn't turn super-smoothly or if you can pull it in and out then it is time to replace it.

yeah and its a good idea to replace it while it's on its way out, because if it is indeed the waterpump making that noise, it may seize in a short time and you'll find yourself stranded on the side of a road with an overheated car

Well i checked the water pump and it appears ok .. No play in it when I take the belt off and spins pretty smooth. its possibly just a slipping belt but i just changed it. Also can anyone tell me how to read the auto tensioner?

if its truly a slipping belt, get some soap and run it across the back of the belt before re-installing.. it can help keep it quiet
