What Kind of Oil Filter @ Where to Buy?

I'm going to change my oil soon, so I need to pick up a filter. I know that FRAM is terrible, so what is good? I'm a low budget man, so im willing to give up a little quality for a drop in price.

I have heard that the motocraft filters are very good, and one of the cheapest. Thus I think im going to try and pick up one of these.

Could someone tell me what part number I need & where I could get one? It seems that pepboys only has FRAM. And I heard that walmart wont carry motocraft anymore.

Help?

You can go to your local auto parts store and pick up motorcraft oil filter part# fl820s I think. I go to advance auto parts or autozone.

Yep, I use the Motorcraft FL-400S filters on my 3.8L's. It's a quality filter, and it's cheap.

Go to NAPA and get a NAPA Gold, it's made by WIX. Excellent filters. Expect to pay $5-7. You get what you pay for.

Apparently you don't know anything about WIX filters. Not a renamed WIX filter, a WIX filter that says NAPA on it. Tell me where to get a premium WIX w/o the NAPA paint, cheaper, and I'll be there.

They're the "#1 Filter in NASCAR" for a reason. I can't think of any filter I'd rather own.

Tell us about your "pet" filter dude.

Why are Fram filters so bad?

A guy walks into an autoparts store and says "I would like a windshield wiper for my Honda Civic." The clerk thinks a minute then says "I guess that's a fair trade..."

My Wal-Mart has Super-Tech, Fram, and Motorcraft. The Motorcraft line is being discontinued. Which leaves me using WIX filters.

Auto Value also sells them, though, they do not say NAPA on them.

O'Reilly's hasn't made it this far North. In the nearby areas I'm stuck with the weak old standby places. Auto Value, NAPA, Car Quest, Champion, Bumper to Bumper.

I'm pretty sure the NAPA Silver filters go for about that. I use NAPA Gold.

NAPA Silver and NAPA Golds are both made by WIX. So you're saying if you buy a WIX filter you don't have a choice of two grades? A WIX filter is a WIX filter unless it says NAPA on it?

Still have no O'Reillys here

i don't think #1 in nascar means much, don't they tear down engines after every race? and how much crud can actually get in the oil for the filter to clean in one race anyways?

Yup not a thing espically when WIX and Purolator are also sponsors.

Though they are pumping a lot of gas and subsquently it should be getting in the oil, but honestly is 500miles at 180mph really that taxing on a filter/oil consider the temp is stable.

They're not. I've always used a Fram filter on my Bird, and I have never had a problem. Just people's opinions.

Honestly if it meets the ASE standard its ok, but Fram's contruction in comparison to the others put it below them and then you factor cost and it sinks to the bottom.

So you are saying it would be a good bet to get something different than FRAM cause that's what I've used for the two years that I've been able to drive. But the only reason I did that is because I didn't want to use Super Tech (wal-mart brand) and FRAM was the first one I grabbed.

A guy walks into an autoparts store and says "I would like a windshield wiper for my Honda Civic." The clerk thinks a minute then says "I guess that's a fair trade..."

I'm not saying Fram is bad but there are much better things out there for less money.

Purolator IMO.
