Angry H/G's only last 4000km? WTF?

Hey guys,

Its a good thing I only drive the cougar for pleasure only, it lasted me the summer.

I completed the h/g's at 45,000km, now 49,000km.
I smelt coolant for a while, just though it was the intake bolts leakin a bit. The other night, I saw a small spot under the car.(driven 4 days earlier for a 2 hour cruise) Coolant. Looked around and it seems to come from the passenger side, at the face of the head and the block and leaking down the front and running along the oil pan. What gives? The block was clean and flat-checked, heads were planed, looked like a mirrior, ford gaskets(look exactly the same as fel-pro's) and ford bolts, and its leakin again. So far the cylinders are still sealed, no oil/coolant mix.

Suggestions? Do I try re-torque-ing the bolts before doin the entire job again?

did you do the proper torquing procedure?

I used the service manual,and torqued them the way it said to.

Are you sure the water pump is tight? I had seepage and it was from the bolt that is also a mounting stud for the plate for the power steering. I was in the process of removing the waterpump to replace it when I decided to check tightness and it wasn't tight.

Thanks for your reply. I double checked tonight but its leaking from the right side, right at the head gasket surface,starts at the front and part way back is wet too. Water pump bolts are still tight.

What if I changed the head bolts with arp stud kit, with just taking out the ford head bolts, then screwing in the studs and torque em to spec without takin off the intake, heads and all the other stuff. I might put it away for winter like that and look into it next spring. I put about 1500 into it last year.

if its leaking out the side there's a possibility the water passages on the heads are blown. If you're going to spend the money on ARP studs, you might as well replace the 25 dollar head gasket on that side and make sure its good.
