Head gasket / water jacket question

I found a car that blew a head gasket due too a bad water pump. The owner installed a new water pump, thermostat, housing, and hoses. It has great compression, accoring to him, but the HG is blown in a water jacket. I am not mechanically inclined in the head gasket area, so could someone please tell me what exactly this means, HG is blown in a water jacket. Will it be an easier type fix, or is it a real PITA!! Price estimate? Thanks, Steve

I think what he's saying is, the head gasket itself failed but in a water jacket area, where the holes are in the gasket itself. Nothing went wrong in a water jacket. Hope I'm making sense!

Maybe someone might have a picture of a failed gasket to show you.
